PULITZER PRIZE WINNER - Monday, April 26, 2010 at 11:10
The Pulitzer Prize Board awarded a posthumous special award to Williams, for his lifetime achievement as a musician, praising the country legend for "his craftsmanship as a songwriter who expressed universal feelings with poignant simplicity and played a pivotal role in transforming country music into a major musical and cultural force in American life."

The citation, above all, recognizes the lasting impact of Williams as a creative force that influenced a wide range of other musicians and performers.
Only a few other musicians have earned special citations in music in recent years: jazz composers Thelonious Monk and John Coltrane each received one in 2006 and 2007, respectively, and Bob Dylan captured one in 2008.

Hank Williams set the country music standard with his music, including songs such as, "Your Cheatin' Heart," "Cold Cold Heart," "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry," "Jambalaya," "Hey,Good Lookin'," "There's A Tear in My Beer," "You Win Again," "I Can't Help It If I'm Still In Love With You," "Move It On Over," "I Saw the Light," "I'll Never Get Out of This World Alive," "Men With Broken Hearts" and "Kaw-liga."

Hank Williams touched many fans in a heartfelt, sincere and powerful way through his 128 compositions and his 225 recordings that live on today.

Been listening to Hank's music since 1956. Loved what I heard then - still do. I'm from the Shetland Islands in Scotland, but I now live in Spain.

Hank Williams Sr will always be a hard act to follow. I have been singing his songs since 1961, and will never stop.
